One year ago I was laying in my Labor & Delivery room waiting for the pitocin to kick in while JP grabbed food. Supposedly I had about an hour to wait for these meds to kick in to bring my contractions closer to 3 minutes and progress from there. Yeah right. at 10:30pm I had contractions but they got close together very fast. I started to have them every minutes. at 10:45pm I had them call JP back to the room and had him kick everyone out. I felt pressure like I had never felt before. I thought I had 6 more hours of experiencing this to go and was ready to ask for something to take the edge off...not quite the epidural.
The nurse came in because they couldn't monitor the baby because I stood up and I refused to lay down. I was starting to feel like I needed to push. The doctor came in to check and I begged them to hurry because I couldn't find a comfortable position. The doctor said surprised "oh...you're 10 and negative 2." I tried to politely say "what does that mean?" They said I was ready and I said "well can I start pushing." at 12:22am my daughter was born.
The first words I heard used to describe her was not "It's a girl." It was a nurse that was assisting pediatrics saying from the back of the room "Wow, she's feisty." And I said, "oh, so it is a girl." She looked from behind the doctor who failed to check and said, "oh, yes it's a girl."
